I've managed to post here and there, but nothing I can hang my hat on, so to speak.
As you know, the Things are in The Secret Garden, and tonight, kids, is opening night.
For the past 6 days Husband and I have been burning the midnight oil (literally) finishing the sets and moving into the beautiful theatre downtown and setting the stage and making adjustments and running to JoAnn and Michaels and Home Depot to fix broken set pieces and making touch-ups and changes and working through 6 hour rehearsals. Don't worry, we found a tavern next door and took a break to have a beer or two. Obviously.
We even had to miss the Super Bowl and back to back episodes of The Bachelor (which I, of course, stayed up until the wee hours Tuesday night to watch - don't be ridiculous).
Last night was dress rehearsal.
And just like that, all the work and long hours were worth it.
My little Thing 2.
Proud mama? Just slightly.
She has floored me with her professionalism and her enthusiasm and her naturalness on that big stage, but will I be a nervous wreck for her before the curtain opens tonight? Um, you bet. (note to self: pack the Pepto).
Thing 1 is an old pro, and other than her big scene where Mary gets right in her face and screams that she wishes she'd get eaten by maggots, I know she'll be a calm cucumber. She's groomed me well for the opening night jitters - on both sides of the curtain.
So today I'll run the last few errands I need to run and wash tights and curl Thing 2's hair and feed them both carbs-but-no-dairy and fix Mary Lennox's stage bed that broke last night and set up the concessions and steal a glass of wine and finally, at 6:47, take my seat and exhale.
But then the overture will start, and all the emotions I've somewhat neglected to acknowledge over these hectic past two months will come crashing down on me...and the busy volunteer mama will become just the mama.
And I will be overcome.
